鶹ý Earns National “Opportunity College” Distinction From Carnegie Foundation

鶹ý has been recognized as one of only two public colleges in Florida to earn the prestigious "Opportunity College and University" designation from the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education. Of the 479 institutions nationwide selected for this honor, Santa Fe College in Gainesville is the only other Florida college named.
The new designation recognizes colleges and universities that provide exceptional access to higher education while producing graduates who earn above-average wages. Institutions selected for this honor demonstrate a strong commitment to diversity, student access and economic mobility.
“We are deeply honored to be recognized as an Opportunity College,” said Dr. Sarah Clemmons, President of 鶹ý. “This designation affirms our long-standing mission of Changing Lives and Creating Futures. It reflects our continued commitment to opening doors for students from all backgrounds and preparing them for success in the workforce.”
This year marks a significant update to the Carnegie Classifications, conducted in partnership with the American Council on Education (ACE). The revised methodology introduces multidimensional groupings and evaluates institutions based on several key indicators, including:
- The size and degree types most commonly awarded
- Demographics such as race/ethnicity of undergraduate students
- Proportion of Pell Grant recipients
- Workforce earnings data comparing graduates to national peers
The Carnegie Classification has long been regarded as the leading framework for recognizing institutional excellence and diversity in American higher education. The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education is updated every three years and this is the first year the Opportunity College and University designation was awarded to colleges that meet criteria for both “higher access” and “higher earnings.”
“We are especially proud to receive this recognition in its inaugural year. Even prior to knowing this award existed, our faculty, staff, and administrators have consistently strived to create opportunities, meet student and community needs, and pursue excellence every day—for ourselves, for our students, and for the communities we serve,” states Dr. Clemmons.
